Send a GA4 event to Google Analytics every time a form is submitted, so you can track form conversions alongside the rest of your site’s analytics. Requires Contactum Pro with the Google Analytics module enabled.
Requirements #
- Contactum Pro, with the Google Analytics module active (Contactum → Modules)
- A GA4 property with a data stream already set up
- A GA4 Measurement ID and a Measurement Protocol API Secret
1. Get Your GA4 Credentials #
- In your GA4 property, go to Admin → Data Streams and open your stream. Copy the Measurement ID (looks like
G-XXXXXXXXXX). - On the same stream, go to Measurement Protocol API secrets → Create and copy the generated secret.
2. Connect Google Analytics in Contactum #
- Go to Contactum → Settings → Integrations → Google Analytics.
- Paste in your Measurement ID and API Secret.
- Click Save & Test Connection.
Contactum sends a test event to GA4’s debug endpoint to confirm the pair is valid before saving. On success you’ll see “Connection successful. Events will be recorded in GA4.” and the status badge turns green.
Unlike most integrations, the Measurement ID and API Secret fields stay visible even after a successful connection — there’s no separate “disconnect” view, you can just edit and re-save.
3. Enable Google Analytics on a Specific Form #
- Open the form in the builder.
- Go to Form Settings → Integrations.
- Toggle Send GA4 Event for this form on, then click Configure.
4. Configure the Event #

There’s no field mapping here — Google Analytics receives event metadata about the submission, not the submitted field values themselves.
5. How It Works #
When a visitor submits the form:
- Contactum checks the form has the integration enabled and the global connection is configured.
- An event is sent to GA4 with your configured Event Name, along with
form_id,form_name,entry_id, andpage_titleas event parameters. - Each event uses a freshly generated random identifier rather than reading the visitor’s real GA cookie — this means the event will show up in GA4 as a form-submission conversion, but GA4 won’t be able to stitch it into that same visitor’s existing session or user journey.
GA4’s event-collection endpoint doesn’t send back a real confirmation of whether an event was accepted — Contactum treats a successful delivery to Google as a success, but this isn’t airtight proof the event was recorded on Google’s side. If events aren’t showing up in GA4’s real-time reports, double-check your Measurement ID/API Secret first.
Troubleshooting #
“Invalid Measurement ID or API Secret” #
- Reconfirm both values were copied exactly from GA4 Admin → Data Streams → your stream.
Events aren’t showing up in GA4 #
- Confirm the form has Send GA4 Event for this form toggled on and saved.
- Check GA4’s Realtime report a few minutes after a test submission — GA4 reporting can lag.
- Reconfirm the Measurement ID and API Secret are still valid (a secret can be revoked/regenerated independently in GA4).
My event name changed unexpectedly #
- Event names are automatically sanitized to letters, digits, and underscores, starting with a letter, and truncated to 40 characters. If your entered name doesn’t meet these rules, Contactum adjusts it — if the result becomes empty, it falls back to
form_submission.
Notes #
- Requires Contactum Pro with the Google Analytics module active — not available in the free plugin.
- Auth method: Measurement ID + API Secret (GA4 Measurement Protocol) — not OAuth.
- Credentials storage: stored in
